Being the Church
Reflections
T
his Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, the day the presence of the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles and they began to preach and prophesy. This Sunday is also Mother’s Day. In Proverbs 1 and again in Proverbs 6 we are told, “Hear, my child, your father’s instruction, and do not reject your mother’s teaching.” Also, 11 times we are told to honor our father and our mother. This Sunday we will thank God for our mothers and the love they have given us. The love of God is also compared to the love of a mother, “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem” (Isaiah 66:13).
God also gives us God’s best in the giving of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is also described as a teacher, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you” (John 14:25). The Holy Spirit is also a comforter, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). Of course the Holy Spirit also empowers, convicts, testifies, and prays for us as well.
So this Sunday, we worship God for the giving of two great gifts: our mothers and the Holy Spirit.
See you in worship,
Tom Albaum

Important Information –
Pastoral Visitation
Federal regulation places restrictions on access to patient listings at hospitals for the public including churches and pastors.
If you or a family member enters a hospital and wish to have your name listed on the patient list, you must provide consent for release of information when you are admitted. Without this consent your pastors will not know you have been admitted.
Please sign the consent form at admission and have family contact the church (558-2330) if you would like a pastor to visit.
Make A Plan for Dundee Camp
Perhaps one of the most unique and life-changing opportunities for any student or leader is coming this July 20-26. Every year, Dundee Church joins together to bring students from 4th grade through high school seniors together for seven days at Camp Calvin Crest in Fremont, Nebraska. God uses these seven days in July to teach students about Him through Jesus Christ and change lives for eternity. Camp is filled with games, swimming, awesome songs, campfires, late-night snacks, great speakers, and led by the best people whose lives were changed in the very same way at the very same camp. If you are looking for an amazing experience, you are encouraged to register for camp today. You can get registration forms at church or from the Dundee Youth website <www.dundeeyouth.org> or you can link to the website from <www.dundeepresbyterian.org>. If you would like to be a volunteer leader at camp this year, pick up a staff application from Judy Schippers in the reception center. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact Bo Burgener, 558-2330 ext. 15.
Spiritual Retreat at Dundee Presbyterian Church
May 31 • 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
What To Expect at the Retreat - There will be time set-aside for guided exercises in contemplative prayer and for Sacred Readings from Scripture. It will be a time for learning and refreshing. It will be a time to be alone with God, either in a private space in the church or outside at the park. It will be a time to be prayed for and grow in spiritual maturity. The term spiritual retreat has several related meanings, all of which have in common the notion of safety or temporarily removing oneself from one’s usual environment in order to immerse oneself in a spiritual exercise and deliberate time with God. A retreat can be taken for reasons related to spirituality, stress, health, lifestyle, renewal and refreshment. If you desire to attend, please contact Judy Schippers by May 28; or if you have questions, contact Tom Albaum, both at 558-2330. Please bring your Bible and something to write in. The cost for breakfast and lunch will be $10.
